About

Our Goal

Mental.Me is a mental health-centered mobile app created by students, for students.

College students are increasingly overwhelmed trying to balance their school/work/life flow and often dont leave time to address their mental health, or even know where to start.

Mental.Me seeks to address the gap in students being able to adequately tend to their health by providing a convenient mixture of resources, a sense of community, and general mental health assessments.

Features

Mental.Me has an easily accesible interface. To begin, you will register an account with Mental.Me, or sign-in if you already have one.

After registering an account, you will be given a simple assessment about any symptons you may be having. The assessment aims to provide helpful feedback on whether you may be experiencing symptoms of specific mental illnesses.

The main menu screen provides all of the options you have on the app.

You'll be asked daily questions about your general mood, and the app will keep track of your results. You'll be able to view a record of how you've felt by either days, weeks, or months.

Resources provides you with a list of location-specific cousnelors, therapists, psychiatrists, and other mental health services available.

The forum gives you a chance to chat and discuss topics relating to mental health with other students who use the app.

Ad Campaign

In order to gain publicity for the app, Mental.Me produced advertisements aimed at college students who might relate to the situations presented in the ads.

These series of ads are ran online.

Creator

Valkyrie Mata

Valkyrie Mata is a current student at Texas State Univeristy studying Digital Media Innovation.

She became interested in the idea of creating an application for mental health when she realized almost every college student she knew struggled with finding time to address their mental health. After learning about the scope of the problem, she began researching ways applications have been utilizied to help with this issue.

She hopes students can use an app similar to her prototype to find both helpful resources and a sense of community so they know they're not alone in their struggles.

This application is part of a class project for Digital Media Capstone.
